What you’ll learn

Bachelor of Psychology is a four-year accredited degree, which offers students the opportunity to write an honours thesis or take part in a group research project during their final year.

In the first three years of study students can elect to enrol in a wide range of psychology subjects that will give them an introduction into specialised fields such as:

• clinical psychology

• health psychology

• personality

• neuropsychology

• developmental psychology

• sensation and perception

• cognition and learning.

James Cook University’s Bachelor of Psychology places a strong emphasis on students being actively engaged in current research – this means from the very beginning of your studies you will be part of real-work scenarios.

As a Psychology student you will also attend seminars presented by national and international experts and obtain skills through situated learning approaches such as work-integrated learning, scenario-based learning and role play.

Registration as a Psychologist

Graduates are eligible for provisional registration in the Psychology Board of Australia . You also need 2 further years of postgraduate study to become a professional psychologist.

Once you graduate, you are eligible for Associate membership of the professional body, the Australian Psychological Society .
