Mathematics and Physical Sciences
JCU is recognised for the quality of its teaching and research in mathematical and physical sciences. Mathematics and Statistics are used in our understanding of the real world and in solving practical problems. At JCU, the course provides students with a broad range of skills to analyse problems from a quantitative perspective.
Physics students at JCU have the opportunity to explore the applied fields of meteorology and oceanography.
For postgraduate students, the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences offers a suite of courses that provide specialist training and skills in the principles of modern mathematics and statistics and incorporate a research project.
The School also offers coursework programs in oceanography and meteorology which enable science graduates to develop their knowledge and skills in the areas of physical oceanography and meteorology, utilising the unique marine and tropical environments of northern Queensland.
Research and coursework programs are likewise offered in physics, mainly in the areas of theoretical atomic and molecular physics.
