An attractive dense clumping grass introduced from Asia. Growth is rapid and grows to 3 m tall, extensive underground system of branching rhizomes. Leaves 1-2 m long, arching, tips sharp, mid rib whitish on upper surface. Ligule a fringed membrane. Inflorescence a large feathery panicle on a stem 2-3 m long.
