Our Final Role in the Quest for the Astronomical Unit: North Queensland and the 1882 Transit of Venus
Ms Vicki Darlington, Astronomy/Geology
This lecture examines both an unsuccessful attempt to observe the 1882 transit of Venus and the fate of the telescopes used in the attempt. One of the telescopes was sold in 1889 to J. Ewen Davidson of Mackay, who promptly achieved international fame by using it to discover a comet.
