Welcome to Learning Skills.
We are a team of Learning Advisers, Peer Advisers and Student Mentors that will help you improve your organisational, literacy, numeracy and general academic learning skills, particularly in your first year. Our award-winning Student Mentor Program , including the Indigenous Student Mentor Program, will support and encourage you right from the start of your exciting learning journey at JCU.
We provide a range of services for students and staff that include workshops, consultations and a range of online resources for students who cannot easily access our main campuses and study centres. Specific resources are available from this website if English is an Additional Language (EAL) for you. Many first year subjects participate in the Systematic Integrated Learning Advice (SILA) model. This is a model in which targeted degree courses are allocated a Learning Adviser who works with the Subject Lecturer and Course Coordinator to identify and support students requiring extra assistance.
