Printing from laptops – Mac

OSX 10.6 users must first download a driver for the printer… see box below

The Mac driver for the printers can be downloaded from one of the JCU servers:
1. Click on the Go menu then click on Connect to Server
2. Type in smb://cns-filer1/print then click connect
3. It will prompt you to enter your username (jc number) and password
4. Click Connect
5. A window should open and you should see the JCU print drivers .dmg file
6. Install JCU print drivers.dmg and then continue with instructions below

  1. Open the System Preferences window from the Apple pull down menu in the top left corner of the screen.

  2. Select Print & Fax under the Hardware heading

  3. Click + under the white box on the left side of the Print & Fax window

In the new window that appears, there are icons across the top with Default, Fax, IP, Windows, Bluetooth

  1. RIGHT CLICK (or Control + Left click) anywhere in this bar and select Customize Toolbar

  2. Left click and hold and drag the Advanced icon up onto the bar with the other icons

  3. Click Done

  4. Click the Advanced button you just dragged up onto the toolbar

  5. Change the Type pull down menu to Windows

  6. In the URL field:

    1. Cairns users type in either smb://AD/cns-print/student-black-multi or smb://AD/cns-print/student-colour-multi

    2. Townsville users type in either smb://AD/tsv-print/student-black-multi or smb://AD/tsv-print/student-colour-multi

  7. In the Name field, enter the name you wish to give the printer

  8. Change the Print Using menu option to Select a driver to use... or Select printer driver… or select printer software or similar

  9. In the search window that appears:

    1. OSX 10.4 and 10.5 users, type in Xerox DP4525

    2. OSX 10.6 for the black & white printer use either of the drivers that appear when you type in 5010

    3. OSX 10.6 for the colour printer type 3100 and select the one that says DocuCentre

If none of these driver s appear, see the box at the top of this page

  1. Select your printer from the list and click Add in the bottom right corner of the window

You will be presented with a window of all the available options you can choose for the printer

  1. Click continue or OK

The first time you print, the print job may be paused. If this happens a bouncing printer icon will appear

  1. Click on it then click Resume or Continue or something similar

You will be presented with one of two possible windows asking for your credentials:

If the window that appears has 3 text entry boxes follow these instructions:

Enter AD in the domain field (top field)

Enter your user name (jc number) and password in the next fields

Tick to remember username and password

If the window that appears has 2 text entry boxes and 2 options, follow these instructions:

Select Registered User option

In the username field enter: ad\jc number

In the password field enter your JCU password

Tick to reme mber username and password

Note

Do not use Microsoft Office’s quick print function (printer icon on the toolbar); your print job will not be sent.
