New students welcomed to JCU during O Week

James Cook University’s 2012 Mid Year Orientation Week kicks off next week (Tuesday 17 July) on campus in Townsville.

‘O Week’ is a university-wide celebration a week of social and study activities before teaching starts in Study Period 2.

It is a great time to meet fellow students, future lecturers and to explore the campus.

As well as fun activities and entertainment, O Week includes info sessions and workshops that will help with the transition to university life and learn about the support services available. It gives new students a head start, and new students are urged to attend as many of the activities as they can.

Activities include:

• Course and faculty welcomes and activities

• Social events, organised by the Student Association.

• Free workshops

• Meeting student mentors

• Campus and library tours

• Student ID card collection

• Timetable and time management info sessions

• Writing and note taking workshops

Social activities include:

Tuesday 17 July

7.00pm Onwards Movie Night (alcohol free event). Uni Club Beer Garden

Wednesday 18 July

12.00noon – 2.00pm JCUSA Free BBQ and Giant Games. There will also be entertainment, prizes and giveaways. Market Square

Thursday 19 July

1.00pm - 4.00pm Reef HQ Trip - Visit the largest living coral reef aquarium in the world.

Friday 20 July
