Supplementary exams

Depending on the individual school or faculty policy, students who come close to passing a subject and meet other eligibility requirements may be granted a supplementary exam. Please note that students do not apply for a supplementary exam.

Students who are granted a supplementary exam will see this by the notation ‘NS’ on their results for a specific subject, when subject results are released. Results publication dates are available in the Study Period Calendars at Calendars and Timetables.

Supplementary exams are held after the formal exam period, see Exam timetables.

Please note that after sitting a supplementary exam, you can only be awarded one of the following subject results:

SP

SPC

SP-

SN

SX

Please note: if you apply for Special Consideration in the marking of your exam , you should not assume that you will receive a supplementary exam or pass your subject.
