Exchange @ University of Guelph, Canada
University of Guelph
The University was easily accessible, provided great food services and excellent exercise and fitness centre memberships. The university provided everything needed and the accommodation was great. The international student association were helpful and were good at providing ways to interact with other exchange students!
Studying at University of Guelph
The subjects were reasonable, and were what was expected. Majority of the subjects involved lots of the internet and all had midterm exams. I think there was more little assignments compared to JCU.
Living in Canada
Canada was a great place to live I enjoyed trying new foods (poutine, lots of maple syrup products, turkey and was shocked to see how many products used peanut butter). I found basic products such as milk and bread to be more expensive than Australia however fruits and vegetables and alcohol more affordable. The people are very nice, and welcoming!
What were the most rewarding aspects of the exchange experience?
The most rewarding aspect was experiencing life in the colder climate, seeing snow for the first time and travelling such a far distance from home.
Did you experience any difficulties?
When travelling I found it difficult in the French speaking cities, however most places offer an English version of the menu/guide. Any difficulties I experienced there was always someone to help. In Canada they use pounds and feet in measurements which I found harder to convert when shopping.
What advice would you give to a JCU student going to your host university?
Get involved in the on campus activities, there are so many!! Also join the gym, it is 4 times cheaper than JCU and has so much more.
